SimplyGlow — eCommerce Platform

The Challenge

SimplyGlow, a Sri Lankan beauty and cosmetics eCommerce store, was experiencing critical 502 and 524 errors that were taking the site offline during peak traffic periods. The store was running on a cloud hosting plan that couldn’t handle the traffic volume, and bot flooding was consuming server resources — leading to RAM exhaustion and complete site outages.

For an eCommerce business, downtime directly translates to lost revenue. Every minute offline meant customers going to competitors.

Our Approach

We diagnosed the root cause as a combination of insufficient server resources and uncontrolled bot traffic. The server was running on a 1GB RAM plan that had no headroom for traffic spikes.

Our solution was multi-layered: we implemented Nginx-level bot blocking rules to eliminate the resource drain from automated traffic, disabled WooCommerce’s cart fragment AJAX calls that were generating unnecessary server load, properly configured WP Rocket caching alongside Varnish reverse proxy caching, and scaled the server from 1GB to 2GB RAM on a Vultr High Frequency instance through Cloudways.

The result was immediate — the 502/524 errors stopped completely, and the site has maintained 100% uptime since the optimisation. We continue to monitor the server performance and provide ongoing maintenance.
